Gasoline Alley
I noticed that my local Hess station lowered the price of gas by a whopping one cent after the tax cut by the state. Fastrac lowered it about 4 cents. In the afternoon, Hess had lowered their prices to match Fastrac.
This just goes to show that competition is more effective than idiotic tax policy. While gas runs about $2.87 in Rome and $2.89 in Utica, one section of Black River Boulevard is now at $2.77. Hess has frequently had cheap gas, probably due to rampant rumors of them watering it down. However, Fastrac's "Cash Price" policy has made them a contender. Since they are down the road from each other, they keep bottoming out prices to keep pace.
