Maplewood Evictions

I have a piece of news from a site visitor:

I could'nt find any other way to contact you, so just delete this if it's in the wrong area or something.I thought that the Rome, NY Sucks blog might be interrested in knowing that people at Maplewood Garden Apartments are being kicked out. Everyone is recieving eviction notices saying they have to be out by the 7th of March-not for anything that they've done, but because the new owners (based in New Jersey) are in a hurry to build townhouses, and charge two-hundred dollars more for rent then they are currently charging, which will bring it to over $600 per month. This, in an area that can't support this ammount of rent. The Mayor's office knows about it, but has said there's nothing Mayor Brown can do. Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito has been sent information about it, but heas not answered it. The attorney general's office has been contacted be several people about this, and is investigating.Originally, people living here were told that they would have until their leases expired. The owners have taken it upon themselves to change this, and now people are scrambling, not having any idea what to do or where to go, believing up to this point that they still had time.If you or any of your readers know someone living at Maplewood, then you or your readers can easily verify this.Again, I just thought that Rome, NY Sucks would want to know-if nothing more than yet another reason this city is going down the tubes.

One month is hardly enough time to find a new place and move. It's amazing they didn't give more time, or at least offer reduced rent for current tenants.

I'm a college student who is getting a co-op in Rome, NY. I'm finding it hard to look for apartments online as Rome has no details (at least that I can find) about its apartment complexes online. Sure, I can find that apartments do exist, but almost nothing about the rooms/rent/services/reviews/etc....

I'm looking for housing from June-Dec. I take it that Maplewood Garden Apartments isn't a good place to live because of its managers? Can anyone follow up on what happened with the evictions? Thanks for any info.

the same thing happened in palm beach county fl. alot of the apartment complexes went condo/town house. all they basically did was to get rid of the undesirables, and crank up the monthly "rents". big back fire. the housing bust happened, and now they are getting less rent from more undesirable folks than before. just as well...nothing better than seeing greedy bastards choke on thier own bile.
