Rome, NY Sucks

But At Least We're Not Utica

Local News (Okay, gossip. Isn't that the same these days?)

The saga of James Gillette ended in less than a week. Eight months after my first blog entry, he was areested for inappropriate behavior with a young man. The next day, he took his own life. The Rome Sentinel made a suspiciously large deal out of the charges, perhaps due to the absence of supermarket ads.

I won't muckrake, but these rumors have been around about him for quite a few years. But, like other people in Rome, (like politicians) very little had been made of it. It seems that only after Gillette's store had closed he got any attention from the authorities.

It also looks like Par Technology in New Hartford will be seeing some massive layoffs soon. I guess "Made in America" doesn't have quite the appeal that it used to.
