A Walk Downtown

I made my way to the Rome employment office today (and that will be a topic here soon enough) and decided to take a short walk to the Bank of America nearby. I crossed 4 storefronts and 2 were empty. Is there any point to downtown anymore? Rome can pretty much be defined by the half dozen anchor stores on Erie Boulevard and the trail of broken business dreams between them.
